Denwick Chapel

Denwick Chapel is a small, beautifully simple Gothic-style Chapel of Ease, created to serve the residents of Denwick, a village built in the 19th century as part of the Duke of Northumberland’s estate. Due to the village’s distance from Alnwick, many residents found it difficult to attend services at St Michael’s, leading to the creation of the chapel.

Funded largely by Algernon George Percy, 6th Duke of Northumberland, and supported by the then Vicar of Alnwick, The Rev’d E B Trotter, the chapel was built in 1876 using stone from Denwick Quarry. Designed to complement the village’s architecture, it features tall lancet windows, a simple altar, and a stone font near the entrance.

The Duke of Northumberland gifted the land and materials for its construction, and the chapel remains closely linked to Northumberland Estates.

Regular services continue to take place at the Chapel to celebrate the main Church festivals.
