Mission Action Plan

We believe that God is calling us to grow as a church family and to deepen our service to the wider community. Our Mission Action Plan (MAP) is a practical expression of that calling. It sets out a shared vision for the coming years and identifies the priorities that will help us become the church God is inviting us to be.

Our Vision Statement:

Rooted in Christ, we seek to be a church where:

  • Radical Welcome means all can belong and be accepted just as we are;
  • Inspiring Worship enables our faith to grow and be nurtured with joy;
  • Intentional Service shapes how we share the hope and love of God within the wider community.

This vision expresses our desire to be a community where people encounter the love of God, grow in faith, and are equipped to live out the gospel in everyday life.

The MAP is built around the three strands of our Vision Statement:

1 Radical Welcome

We have a vision for St Michael’s, Alnwick to be a place where everyone feels they truly belong. That means continuing to grow as an inter-generational church family, where children, young people, adults and older members all know they are valued and have a part to play. We want our church to feel like a second home: a place of warmth, acceptance and friendship, where people are welcomed regardless of age, race, sexuality, gender or ability.

In the longer term, this strand is closely linked to our hopes for the reordering of the church building, including improved facilities, accessible toilets, and space that can be used throughout the week by a wide range of community groups.

2 Inspiring Worship

Worship lies at the heart of our life together. We want our worship to be joyful, prayerful and rooted in the rich traditions of the Church, while also being accessible and engaging for people of all ages. We hope to offer worship that nurtures faith, draws people closer to God, and inspires confidence in Christian discipleship.

Our aim is that worship at St Michael’s will be both beautiful and transformative, helping people to encounter God in the stillness of private prayer as well as in our shared life as a church family.

3 Intentional Service

We believe that God calls us to serve others and to share the hope and love of Christ in our homes, workplaces and local community. Intentional Service is about making clear connections between what we believe and how we live.

Through loving service and faithful witness, we long to see lives transformed and others come to know the good news of Jesus Christ for themselves.

Looking Ahead

Our Mission Action Plan is both ambitious and realistic. Some elements are already underway, others will take time, prayer and significant investment. Underpinning everything, though, is a simple conviction: that God is at work among us and is calling us to follow courageously where He is leading us.

By God’s grace, we pray that this vision will help St Michael’s become:

  • a place where all feel genuinely welcome;
  • a growing and flourishing inter-generational church family;
  • a place of inspiring worship and prayer;
  • a church equipped to serve and bless the wider community;
  • a community where each person can discover their place and become more fully the person God has called them to be.
