The organ was originally built by Harrison & Harrison of Durham in 1892, and then reconstructed by Ingrams of Edinburgh in 1913. In 1919 an 8ft Vox Humana was installed as a memorial to three young men who lost their lives in the Great War. The organ was overhauled in 1947 and since then has only had minor repairs and regular tuning carried out. Almost 80 years on, although the organ is still used nearly every day, it is now in need of significant work to restore it to ensure that it will last for another 100 years.
